Touchdown Friday Night - Week 6

Posted On:Sep 28, 2007

After winning just once last year, Holston is 5-0 and could jump to 2-0 in the Hogoheegee District with a win over Patrick Henry tonight. It’s a pretty safe bet that no one saw that coming. True, the Cavs haven’t played George Wythe, Chilhowie or Rural Retreat yet, but you have to hand it to Jason Matlock for the job he’s done. Matlock is young and affable, and his players have responded well to him by all accounts. Before Holston starts to count on earning a playoff spot or a district title, though, it has to get through the Rebels. Check us out later for more on this and other games, and welcome to the BHC’s prep sports blog.

UPDATE - Halftime score: Holston 14, Patrick Henry 6.

Final - Patrick Henry 21, Holston 14. Holston led this one 14-0 before the Rebs came back to earn the win. PH is now 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Hogo. Holston will now have a tough road ahead to snag a playoff spot, with games against GW, Rural Retreat and Chilhowie ahead.

Tennessee High continued to outlast their oppenents on Fri. night upending favored Science Hill 16-10.  It was by far the most exciting game the Vikings have played this year ending on the final play of the game when Mason Canty connected with Thomas Turnbull for a touchdown as time expired.  One has to wonder why the Vikes waited so long to put the ball in the air as it proved to be the key to victory. The Vikings only passed 5 times all night, 3 coming on the closing drive. TN High has the athletes and the ability to crush most of their foes but plays such a conservative offensive game even the fans in the stands can figure what their next play will be. Throw the ball every now and then guys! If for nothing else to keep the defense guessing. Running up the middle most every play for a yard or two with an occasional pitch to Baker isn’t fooling anybody. Use the well conditioned athletes you have, get fired up, and PLAY FOOTBALL!!!  GEEZZ! You all should be killing people! Maybe the coaches need to read a good book. Does Steve Spurrier have one out? It’s all about MOTIVATION!!! Running the crap out of your players and telling them how bad they are doesn’t seem to be getting it done. C’mon Stubby, get a grip on your other coaches or do it yourself. Let’s see some VIKING football before the season is over!

Even without Lebanon, Hogoheegee football seems to be as good as always.  Props to Holston, but you may need that 6th win to get into the playoffs.  PH, solid as always, RR & GW appear to be at the head of the class again.  Seems like no one, on any site, is mentioning Chilhowie.  6 and 1, 3pt loss, and a couple of quality wins so far.  The “writer” for the Kinsport Times has taken numerous shots at them, for what?  Anyway the last 3 weeks will tell.  Holston, improved but pretender?  RR, not a lot of noise, probable choice for champ.  GW, a lot of “look at us”, good team in spite of themselves. Chilhowie, completely under the radar this year.  Should be an interesting final 4 weeks.
