Bluff City Recall
Nov 04, 2008 - 06:11 pmIt’s election time again. This is my second presidential election in my reporting career. My first one was in Wichita Falls, TX (north Texas near Oklahoma border). There I covered the democratic election party. As you can imagine, that party was kind of somber although some of their local candidates did win. Four years later in another historical presidential election, I am covering the Bluff City recall. Voters there will be deciding the fate of four out of six of their leaders: Mayor Todd Malone, Vice Mayor J.C. Gentry, Alderman Don Weaver, and Alderwoman Irene Wells. I will be keeping my eye on the results. I plan to talk to voters on the way out of the polls. After the results come in, I plan to get reaction from one of the people who circulated the petition and one of the aldermen who’s name was on the recall ballot. Should one or more town leaders be recalled, I plan to talk to an alderman who was not facing recall to find out what is next and who may fill that spot. Also, I’ve heard some complaints about intimidation at the polling place. I will be researching the boundry rules and talk to the election commission regarding this complaint.
