The I-40 Nightmare: Share your story
Posted On:May 01, 2008
After months of planning, TDOT shut down a section of I-40 in Knoxville at 12:01 am today.
I lived in Knoxville for four years, and traffic on the coast to coast interstate was horrible. That was with all lanes open. So I can’t really get my brain around the concept of closing - I said CLOSING - the road for 14 months.
I’ve heard some say they can’t remember a time when Knoxville traffic wasn’t awful. Do you have a story to tell?

I never remember a time when I40 in Knoxville was not being worked on. I hope this fixes the problem.

I lived and suffered through Atlanta traffic for 16 years. It is not as bad overall in Knoxville but for a few miles through Knoxville it does get as bad as Atlanta traffic. For a city the population of Knoxville to come anywhere near Atlanta traffic is pathetic

I bent a rim on a pothole in Knoxville last month so something needs to be done. I’m just glad I don’t have to deal with it every day!
