The Widow Left Holding the Bill
Posted On:May 02, 2008
Tell me what you think of this. Here’s the Associated Press story from late Thursday:
(AP)
Nevada’s governor is planning to ask Steve Fossett’s widow to help pay the state’s tab in searching for
the missing adventurer.
A spokesman for Governor Jim Gibbons says any money paid by
Fossett’s family would be voluntary. The Silver State spent nearly
$700,000 on an unsuccessful month-long search for Fossett last fall.
The spokesman says the state is asking for the money in part
because of “ongoing budget difficulties.” Hotel magnate Barron
Hilton voluntarily sent the state a check $200,000 to cover some of
the search costs. The state is hoping the Fossett family will help
make up the $487,000 difference.
Fossett was declared legally dead in February by an Illinois
judge and is said to have left behind a “vast” eight-figure
estate. Fossett has not been seen since his small plane took off
September 3rd.
(end of story)
Fair? Rude? What do you think?

Gee.....I’m glad I don’t live there.....Let’s not give any other governor this idea......let’s make all the families of the missing pay for finding them, then they pay for all the bill for finding the killer and putting them in prison (we already pay to keep them there), then they pay for the funeral and burial.....yea, that sounds like a reeaaallll good idea, right?

I have heard that argument for years with hikers. People say when you go up on a mountain and someone has to come get you, you are responsible for the cost or even better, remember the run away bride? They made her pay for the cost of them searching for her. She ran away and didn’t want anyone to find her. The hunt her down, then tell her she has to pay for it. The woman was a total idiot, but she still shouldn’t have had to pay for something she didn’t ask for. Anyway, back to the main topic. If I come on someone having a heart attack and give them CPR, can I send them a bill like the hospital would for 100s of thousands of dollars. People are idiots in this country. The search should have been conducted to HELP someone, not to collect money later. This country is full of idiots!
