Bringing Back “The Electric Company”

Posted On:May 13, 2008

Before the TV show “The O.C.”, there was the “E.C.”

I read this today and about choked!  This was one of my favorite shows.

From the Associated Press:

PBS hopes today’s kids will get a charge out of
“The Electric Company” like kids did in the 1970s. PBS is
bringing it back with a new cast, starting next year. The original
series featured Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and others. Like it did
in the 1970s, the show is aimed at six to nine or ten year olds and
centers on making reading and grammar fun. Production on the 21st
century version of “The Electric Company” is expected to start
today on the streets of New York City and in a New Jersey studio.

Did you watch The Electric Company “back in the day”?  Remember Morgan Freeman as the vampire?  That was the stuff of nightmares for me.
Everyday after Sesame Street, my brother and I would snack our way through the next hour of quality TV.  Or was it?
Share your memories.

As a kid, I never liked Sesame Street, but the Electric Company was my favorite “kids” show.  I almost hate they are bringing it back with a NEW cast.  There is no way they can be as good.  I will probably watch it a few times at least, then gripe about how it isn’t as good, then never watch it again.

It was a great educational show.....it was Sesame Street meets Saturday Night Live.  I am sure the new one will be just a great.

I’m quite convinced the reason my kid had such a hard time learning to read was because he didn’t get to watch The Electric Company growing up!  (TN school system sure didn’t help him.) We’ve been searching youtube for skits and he loves them.  *IF* they will do the new one like the old one they’ll have something great.  But so far, not even Sesame Street is like “the old one”.  Will have to wait and see if they remember what it was that made TEC great.
