A dear friend and co-worker is leaving us.

Selena Wiles has been “stolen” from News Channel 11.  The very wise managers of a TV station in Erie, Pennsylvania, made her an offer she could not refuse.  Selena will be their main anchor.  In the TV biz, that means she WON’T be working mornings or weekends.

Selena is a rare find.  Totally genuine.  First a journalist, then a news anchor. A gifted writer and speaker.  A fiercly devoted friend.  An equally fierce fighter when the war is on.

We natives see them come and go on local TV, don’t we?  We just get to know and love them.  Then they leave.  Some are happy to move on to the next big gig.  Other’s grow to love us too.  Selena is one who’s as sad about leaving as we are about seeing her go.  I can tell you this for sure; she loves the Tri-Cities region and the people who live here.

People of Erie: listen up!  You’re in for a treat.  And your gain is our loss.

Send your congratulations to Selena here on the Morning Edition blog.  We’ll make sure she sees them.

Quick! Activate her GPS. We’ll get her back. The South will rise again!  -You know we’re kidding, right? -  But seriously, we will miss her. She can make up for it by sending us CHOCOLATE from nearby Hershey. That just might make us all feel a little bit better. Chocolate cures all ailments of the heart.  We will miss Selena - but we are serous about the chocolate. Good Luck!

Hi, Selena. It’s been a joy to watch you on the 5 o’clock news whenever I have time. I also got a kick of watching you doing other assignments for News Channel 11. Your on-air chemistry with Bob Lewis, then later with Tim Cable was remarkable. You’re one of a kind and you’re still a great newswoman. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and I hope you’ll do well in your new job in Erie, PA. Please come back to the Tri-Cities as often as possible. Lotsa luck and God bless.

Selena, My family and I will truley miss hearing your voice and seeing the smile on your face and the sparkle in your eyes when you were doing the news. The competition, to lure Virginia Residents to choose a News Media TV Station between the local Networks just got a little tougher with you leaving Channel 11. We wish you much success in Erie, the viewers there have recieved a warm spot in their daily lives through you.

God Bless!
D.Hutch and Family

We will miss you, Selena. God bless and God speed in all endeavors. My family has made NewsChannel 11 our primary news source because everyone there seems to genuinely care and we’ll miss your spirit.

This is a terrible loss for WJHL Ch. 11. Selena is a “bright” spot on the evening news with her personality and laughter.

Will miss you, Selena, but wish you the very best in your every endeavour.

Selena, we are really going to miss you. I enjoyed seeing you because you were so “natural”. I also have WV connections so, it was great hearing about your home area.
My grandparents lived right across the border from Erie in OH. My advice to you is to invest in some really warm clothes. The lake is beautiful in the summer, but in the winter it really is a “snow machine”.
God bless you in your future.

Well can’t blame her for going to where the pay is.  It’s really all you can do in the news business.  Good luck in Erie.
