Tools In Your Parenting Toolbox

Posted On:May 30, 2008

As a parent, one of the tools I need (and at times have to remind myself to use) is PATIENCE.
Other things:
Snacks and water on hand at all times!
An extra pacifier
I’ll add more as we go.

Along with Sara’s ideas I would also add wipes. I can guarantee every time I go out I need napkins or a wet wipe for my son and he’s six!!

My toolbox includes Germ-X and portable potty seat covers.  We just returned from the beach, and it was nice to take a seat cover into the restroom for my son (whom we just finished potty training) and know that there was extra protection between him and the potty!  The Go Diego Go seat covers provided extra motivation to go potty!

I’m with Sara on the pacifier.  My son never wanted a paci, but my daughter loves it!

While potty training, be prepared for accidents by always carrying at least one extra outfit.

Those are all great things we parents couldn’t survive without!  When we were potty training Jaxon, I’d also take along an extra set of clothing and keep in the car, just in case.

A camera is so very important.  My oldest son is 17 and his brother is 8 and I have thousands of shots of them, as we enter the oldest ones final year of high school I am so glad that I followed him around with a camera, It is amazing how quickly they grow up, but my childrens child hood is very well documented on film.

Sunscreen
Cellphone for emergencies.
Paper towels
Sense of Humor
More time than I think we’ll need, just in case.

One thing we cannot leave without is the “favorite toy of the day”. My son usually has a daily favorite, and if we were to leave without it the trip could be a disaster. And we can’t leave without his favorite CD’s to listen to on the drive, and his favorite DVD’s too. I think instead of carrying a diaper bag I need to get one of those rolling carry on luggage things.......
