This Is No Way To Elect A President!
Posted On:Jan 23, 2008
In either case, now that primary season is upon us, it has become abundantly clear that this is no way to run an election!
Here are just a few of the changes that are surely long overdue. Feel free to expand on my list…

Hurrah for Jody Lee. Might be a good thing to make this person president. Sounds like they have a lot of common sense, and sometimes I question whether some of the ones running have any sense, much less common sense. (Why is it called common sense when so few have it?)

You’re right, Jerry, about there being nothing common about common sense - not when it comes to politics anyway!
But you are wrong about putting me anywhere except behind a microphone or in front of keyboard. Like many people, I look better (politically speaking) from a distance. Scrutinize me too closely and I lose my charm. Heh.
In the meantime, did you see the Republican candidates debating last night? Weren’t they fabulous?! They were so civil it was almost unrecognizable as a political forum. While their differences were apparent, the one thing they all seem to agree on is that it’s time for Republicans to become conservatives again. Now, if only they mean it....
Compared to Hatfield and McCoy (aka Obama and the Clintons), the Rep candidates looked downright gentlemanly. Nice.

I am an individual. I am not a “Republican” or a “Democrat.” I don’t feel it is right for me to be forced into a pigeon hole in order to secure my right to vote.
This is what you are leaving out, Ms Lee - that the Dem/Rep nominations are about who will get the substantial amounts of cash necessary to buy the plane tickets, bumper stickers, TV ads and billboards they will need to advertise their way into the white house. If you are not at least a multimillionaire and you have not sold yourself to one of the two parties, there is no way on earth you will ever be elected to an office as high as the presidency in this country. Until the presidential race can be separated from the who-has-the-largest-bank-account race, independent voters will be left out of the lurch and 99.99999 percent of the country can never aspire to lead. The problem is that when it comes time to vote, there will be only two figurehead candidates, or maybe two candidates and a billionaire, none of whom have any sense of the reality of middle/lower class life and at least two of which will be bound to their major contributors’ agendas. Until any man or woman in the country can have a legitimate chance to be elected, I cannot bring myself to call this a fair process.
I agree with “one date, everybody votes.” party affiliation should be neither required nor disclosed. let the top 5-10 candidates from the primary votes go on for the remaining months until the general election , using a general fund and with equal airtime and exposure in the media. It is despicable to me that the size of your coffers should in any way affect your opportunity to govern.
what, naive? probably. disenfranchised? absolutely.

Good points, well expressed. Thanks for your input, Gabriel,
