Did you ever think about the fact that Halloween celebrates absolutely nothing? All our other holidays are a celebration of a particular thing, person or event. But Halloween? Nada. Oh, some folks like to go on about how it has demonic roots and originally was a celebration of something satanic. Whatever.
That is not the reason I’m ready to turn lose of this useless holiday. THIS is why:

Well stated Jody. If I could, I would like to expand on your stance that “believers can easily turn a blind eye to the garish retail aspects by keeping God in their hears and turning to him to help keep their eye on the prize, so to speak”. Wouldn’t it be just as prudent to take that supposition and apply it as a rebuttal to the “War On Christmas” crowd? Seems to me like you have given those who stress over this “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas” something to think about. Thanks for the insight, truly.

Yes, Janelle, Halloween is a strictly retail holiday. On the other hand, Christmas and Easter are a whole other thing. They, as opposed to Halloween, are a celebration of SOMETHING - and in their case (and in my opinion) the most important something in the entire world - the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Because of that, though society may try to merchandise the joy right out of these holidays, they never will. Believers can easily turn a blind eye to the garish retail aspects by keeping God in their hearts and turning to Him to help keep their eye on the true prize, so to speak.
And as for non-believers, who cares how they celebrate Christmas? It’s moot, isn’t it?

Wasn’t Halloween a holiday that meant “back from the dead”? All Hallows Eve I believe. I do agree with you though, its a retail issue now. As in Christmas, and Easter. Christmas especially.

I can’t put my Christmas tree in airports, bus stations or government buildings, but, I can put ghost, witches, tombstones,etc.... Now what does that tell you about equal rights. I guess Muslims, Jews, and any other riligous group don’t mind evil sysmbols, just don’t offend them by Christ.
