Every Breath You Take, performed by the Thought Police…
Posted On:Nov 20, 2007
Punishment for a hate crime, as opposed to the same crime committed without the specified hate behind it, is two or three times more severe.
Now. Let’s think about that. If you mull this over and the words “thought police” DON’T come to mind, then you are purposefully avoiding them.

You say that now, but if you were ever to looks someone you loved to a homicide, you might think different.

You miss the point, Truman.
Homicide is already illegal and punishable by death.
If it’s a “hate crime” homicide, how to they plan to add to the punishment ? Execute them two or three times ? Death by a thousand cuts ? WHAT ?
The whole notion of “hate crimes” is a farce....
Say “little Jimmy” is just a mean little kid...he throws a rock thru the window of the old lady down the street, just for fun ? Is that a “hate crime”.
Now say he throws the same rock thru the same window, but hollers a racial slur along with it.....is THAT a ‘hate crime’...or was he simply being more of a little jerk ?....should be double the punishment because he added the slur ?
Crime is crime.....and offenders should get equal treatment for their offenses....not one tailored to who the victim was....or what “might” have been the reason for the crime.
Do the crime....do the time.

Andy,
Are you saying that mitagating factors should not be considered in sentencing? Is there not a difference in a man who pre-meditates and murders someone who raped and killed his daughter and a man who pre-meditates and kills someone just because they are black, or gay, or Jewish, etc.? This Manichean view that “crime is crime...and offenders shold get equal treatment for their offenses” is illogical. That is why as a society, we have made it a more serious offense to kill the president than to kill your neighbor. Discretion should be given by law to judges to give harsher punishment based on the motive of the offense. I agree with you though that “hate crime” legislation can be taken to the extreme but as a society we must define some crimes and criminals as more heinous than others based on their motives alone.

Of course there is a rise in crime and it will continue to rise.. Even normal people are effect to some extent by watching an hr or two of violence, killing, etc, so what does it do to people who have been brought up in solo or unloving homes.. especially as so many of them watch hrs and hrs of violence..

Funny I tell my sons and daughter to listen to that song. Then apply that to all their boyfriend and girlfriends. Not to become the lastest victim of someone elses ego. Watch and see if they are walking the walk or flying false colors.
Personally I would not believe anything this Bush Adminstration has to say. They treat the American People like Mushrooms. Keep you in the dark and feed you bullshit. Rule you with fear to keep you divided and wary of each other. Not wanting you to talk and organize.
Presently there are more WAR PROTESTER than people who still trust Bush as President according to thier own surveys. But the war protester getting arrested daily are never on the news are they???
