I still think Obama made a huge mistake in not giving Hillary whatever it took to get her to sign on as VP.  It was the only choice that would have made his election a shoe-in.  I don’t get it.

Speaking of Hillary, she is up tonight and I for one am eager to hear her speak.  Will she unite the party?  Will her support of Obama be sincere, or be tinged with that subtle sarcasm she is famous for?  Will she look as good as Michelle Obama did? (Blue is her best color - bet she wears it.  Forgive my girlie lapse into fashion talk...)

Tune in tonight along with me and we’ll share comments.  As a matter of fact, I’ll be checking in daily with thoughts on the convention and hope you will as well, and will do the same for the Republicans.

Has anybody seen ANYTHING interesting at the convention so far?  Did I blink?

Beeman your commits on Aug.27th were true, Unfortunately racism is a hugh part of this election, wheither or not some people will admit it or not. Have you noticed the republicans aren’t playing the moral, christian belief card like they did in the Bush/Kerry election? I think they believe that dog won’t hunt in this election. Obama regardless of his skin color, does have a much stronger moral, family christian value presentation than Mr. McCain does. How can a man that is an adulterer present his christian values with that over his head? Isn’t “Thou shall not commit adulttery” one of the 10 commandments? And tell me this, when a child is born to a white mother or father and the other parent is of another race, why then is tha child considered to be black, mexican, chinese, ect. instead of white? If Mr. Obama’s mother was a white lady should that not make him at least as much white as he is black? What color is an albino born child? Transparent? I am a man of color, and proud of it, I’m white, both parents are white. Are you like me and sick of this race game?

beeman,,, just how many people of color are voting for the Messiah just because of his skin color? the vast majority of folks who refuse to vote for him, base their vote on his policies or lack there of.

Jody, this is D.Hutch not Russ, he’s still painting. I missed Obama’s speech last night, I was involved with a discussion w/my brother concerning health issues with my dad and mother, they stand at the front of the line w/my wife and children, the Conventions are somewhere down the isle of importance. I wished I could have heard what Obama had to say but not sorry I missed it. I gather from what I saw on Late Night and read about today I didn’t miss much, I attended his visit to Va. High this summer. Now it’s the Republician’s turn to bore us to death for a fews nights. So I guess I’ll continue to go to factcheck.com to help seperate the truth from the lies we are about to be subjected too. Oh! Yea I wonder if any of the republicians will adopt that “sneaky thump up in a partially closed fist” thing when jestering. You mentioned it early on when blogging, I believe Bill Clinton started that and made it famous with politicians when trying to make a point. Reminds me of how little girl’s would make a fist to protect her nails. I also read a few minutes ago where Mr. McCain chose Alaska’s Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP. Who??? have to admit she is someone that I haven’t heard much about. Interesting to see what we hear about her in the coming few days, weeks and months from fellow bloggers and the News Media.

As a Disabled Veteran I was ashamed that after our brave men and women of the U.S. Military have need at war for 5 1/2 years John McCain had to be hand feed the facts about who HE VOTED to sent our Solders to fight and who we were defending in the middle east.

Before I would send even one Soldier into battle I would know who they are fighting, why, with what, where, who their supporters are, where they get thier weapons, where they get their bombs, and so many other things about the enemy there would be no dount in my mind about the vote I cast.

How someone espically a U.S. Senator can spend 5 1/2 years talking about defending and voting for military, weapons and funding for a forgein government and not know exactlly who we are fighting and who has been killing over 4,139 American Soldiers is unforgivable to me.

Makes me remember a question I had after the POW’S were released. Why were all the EX POW’S from Vietnam dischaged quickly if they signed papers for the Viet Cong except for McCain who signed more but got to stay in and retire on disability.
Just brings up old stuff I had tried to forget from Vietnam. Too many questions and very strange behavior for a Veteran who claims to support the Troops.
Learning a few years ago with the realse of the CIA papers the the Vietnam War was started on a lie and there was no Gulf of Tonkin attack hurt a lot. Then we discover the only reason we were in Vietnam was to help the French reestiblich control over Vietnam so they could extract wealth like the USA does in Central and South American even today. The old colonial powers using military for economic gain was insulting.
It seems Communist are like WMD’S !

Russ, I agree.  I am waiting for either candidate to tell me HOW is going to do what he says he is going to do.  Because frankly, whichever candidate you support, without the plan to back up their promises, those promises are worthless.

factcheck.org is, indeed, a great site - I’ve gone to it often over the past few years to check things out.  Thanks for passing on the word to others!

I try to watch pundits both liberal and conversative and long the lines of keeping my ears open to what both sides are saying (and realizing no pundit speaks for his or her entire party, just for themselves), I often watch OReilly.  But if I had to name one I really ENJOY watching, it would be Glen Beck.  Hannity makes OReilly look balanced.  But Beck?  I have watched him give both sides down the road and find that his concerns match my own closely.  Good viewing. (His radio show, oddly, doesn’t do much for me, but his tv show is always worth watching.)

Obama is speaking as I write this.  His speaking seems a little stiff, but occasionally impassioned.  Still, he’s no Bill Clinton.  Still waiting for substance and not rhetoric - tell me how you’re going to do it, how you’re going to make it happen!  Change for the sake of change is never a good thing and often a dangerous thing.

Jody, I agree that the conventions do last too long,it gets boring after a while. I only watched the parts of the national televised convention that comes on at 10PM each night. I have seen and listened to the speeches Mrs. Obama, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Biden and his son Beau gave, I was impressed by what each said. But like many, I don’t need to know what’s wrong with this nation. I don’t need to know what kind of a mess our present President has gotten us into, Like everyone in America I can tell that everytime I get my mail, read the newspaper, watch the news on television or leave my house. I want to know How they intend to get us out of this toilet, if it can be done. Give me a plan, show me how, tell me what the benefits are and how it will affect me and my family now and in the future.
So far, as I have heard from candidates from both parties, neither have stated How only What. And we can’t relay on everything each party and candidate says about each other either. I would advise everyone with a computer go to the web site http://www.factcheck.org/ and get the truth for themselves.
As far as what Bill O’Rielly thinks, I don,t watch or listen to that narrow minded, brainless, conservative mouth piece. O,Rielly has had his foot in his mouth so many times to him all his food taste like leather and he has to brush his teeth with shoe polish. And yes, as far as a poor excuse for a man is concerned, O’Rielly would criticize a lady on the color of the clothes she would wear.

Jody, Thanks for the laughs, at times I take these yahoos more seriously than I should. Now it’s time to earn some money, looks as though I’m going to need it. Have a good day.

Gee, Russ - if I’d known you had paint-drying going on, I would have invited myself over.  As it was, I couldn’t come up with a good excuse NOT to watch, so here I sit.

Bill was brilliant - rousing in his endorsement and fabulous in his speechifying.  Whatever.

Okay, just for fun, I want to share with you these late-nite-host stabs at the parties/candidates:

Late Night with Conan O’Brien

Tonight, at the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton gave a big speech in favor of Barack Obama. Experts say it was the longest speech ever delivered entirely through clenched teeth.

Michelle Obama gave a great speech. She said she has been in love with Barack Obama ever since he took her on their first date and bought her ice cream. Meanwhile, John McCain’s wife Cindy says she’s been in love with John McCain ever since he hit her over the head with a club and dragged her back to his cave.

The Republican Convention starts next week. John McCain’s campaign told President Bush that despite his low popularity, he will be allowed to speak at the first night of the convention. They told Bush that the convention starts in December.

Jay Leno:
Barack Obama has chosen Sen. Joseph Biden to be his vice presidential running mate. Biden has 35 years’ experience in Washington. So, between the two of them? That’s almost 36 years of experience.

By the way, by the time Biden took the stage, was anybody still watching?  Pretty anti-climatic to follow Bill Clinton.  And his introductory movie paled next to Hillary’s - directed by the B-team.

Beau Biden introduced his dad - he convinced me wholeheartedly that Joe Biden should be in the Dad Hall of Fame.  Beau is undoubtedly a powerful politician in the making.

Great line Joe had about his wife, Jill - “The only woman who leaves me both breathless and speechless at the same time.” Men everywhere had to be thinking “Now, why I can’t I think of lines like that?”.

I do wish that racism was as near extinction as you seem to think, but I cannot tell you how mny times I have heard someone say that they will not vote for any person of color, period. You can get this comment from total strangers, be it from starting a conversation at the fas pumps, in a grocery store or at church.  I have even heard a local minister say that very thing, and on the day of our primary.  And no, they don’t say person of color.

The way I see it, given the terrible state of affairs we find ourselves in, both fiscally (we truly have borrowed and spent our nation to the verge of bankruptcy) and in the way we are viewed around the world, the only reason that Obama isn’t 20 points ahead is because of his skin color.  While our racism today isn’t the same as when people of color were lynched for only being black, it is still a part of our national fabric, and it is worse here in the former Jim Crow south than in other parts of our nation.  (I remember signs that said “white patrons only” at the doors of businesses when I was a child, even though I didn’t really understand what that was about).

And Obama’s opponent, Senator John McCain, has been all over the place regarding his positions.  He cheated on his wife after she had been disfigured in an accident, and divorced her when he found a wealthy young woman many years younger than he.  He has no idea how many houses he owns when asked.  The media gives him a pass on everything.  He graduated in the bottom 1% of his class at the Naval Academy.  By contrast, Obama graduated with highest honors from Harvard Law school.  There simply is no reason that any thinking person can honestly say that McCain is the better choice for president.  No way can one honestly say that.

And sadly that leaves racism, which is probably at least 10 percent in this election.  We will know soon enough just how smart our nation is.  I truly hope that we elect Obama, because our nation cannot stand four more years of the direction we are going now.

Jody, I haven’t watched the convention, had some paint that hadn’t dried yet, figured watching it would be more interesting. Of course, I just read beeman’s review, and I have to ask what planet’s he from.

Politicians, democrats and republicans, will lie. A coupla months ago Hillary Clinton was using every negative she could muster against Obama. Was she lying then or is she lying now. Of course, it could be PTSD she did come under fire in Bosnia. Wait, that turned out to be a lie as well. And Michelle Obama stuck to her script, la de da.

I’m not voting for Obama and it has nothing to with his color. It’s the socialist/bolshevik nonsense that’s emitted from the orafice under his nose.

Jules being 5th from the bottom in wealth in the Senate still means you’re doing quite well. Please don’t forget Biden has been in Washington nearly thirty six years, and during that time he was in the majority twenty-six years. I think it’s time for him and many others, republican and democrat, to give someone else a chance. After all George Washington stepped down after eight years. Can you say term limits.
