Chatting with Terrorists
Posted On:Jul 23, 2008
Obama speaks as though no one has ever tried to reason with the Iranian president before now. “…if we show ourselves willing to talk and to offer carrots and sticks in order to deal with these pressing problems, and if Iran then rejects any overtures of that sort, it puts us in a stronger position to mobilize the international community to ratchet up the pressure on Iran.”
Carrots and sticks to persuade Iran not to develop nuclear weapons? The very nature of this type of terrorist precludes tempting them with “carrots” or threatening them with “sticks”. It is absurd.
Perhaps if no one had ever tried to reason with Iran’s leader before, it would be worth doing just so we could say that we did. But the fact is that we did. We have. So have a lot of others. But Obama clings to this approach as though it is not only new, but reasonable.
It is that kind of thinking that makes him the LAST person I want in charge of defending my freedom, my country and my life.
NOTE: July 23, 2008: The Iranian nation ... will not retreat one iota in the face of oppressing powers,” Iranian President Ahmadinejad.

nothing new! everything he has written for him,, he preaches it as if it was his very own ideas. his whole campaign operates on “his” ideas.so i guess because he is the MESSIAH,, the rest of the world will bow down and live in peace and harmony. i think not

Ms. Jody I believe the world already views us as a gun slinging, bullet whizzing, trigger happy country. In order to win back the support of the international community one must first at least put on a front that we are willing to talk. If and when those efforts fail, and more than likely they will, then we can say to the rest of the international civilized world, we tried. That trigger happy, blow something up mentality is what got us in the mess we can,t get out of now.

D., I do not think that the “the world” has nearly as negative an opinion of us as the media has led us to believe, but that aside, the opinion of the international community is not as important as protecting our country, our interests and our allies.
I agree that going through the motions of trying to negotiate a peaceful way out of this and calmly talk Iran out of the idea of making nuclear weapons has to be done, if for no other reason than for appearance’s sake. But it HAS been done already. Over and over, with no luck.
So does Obama believe that HE has something new to add? That the terrorists will abandon their beliefs, fall victim to Obama-mania and hand over their nukes, if HE is the one that approaches them?
He may indeed believe that, but the last “NOTE” in my original posting - the quote from Ahmadinejad - pretty much says it all.
So I must disagree with your comment about “if and when those efforts fail”. That ship has sailed.
Thanks for your input! jody

Ms. Jody I also said “and most likly they will”, referring to talking to Ahmadinejad failing. Tell me if you believe the ship of talking to Iran’s Ahmadinejad has sailed, then what if anything beyond negotiations with Iran’s leaders do you suggest be done? Interested in hearing what options you believe are at hand.

HELLO!HELLO! is anyone home? HELLO! MS.JODY ARE YOU HERE? WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, WHERE DID YOU GO? did you not have any sugestions on how you believe the U.S. should address Irans presistance in pursuing nuclear power?

Nuclear energy is a resource any developing nation will need in order to improve their economy. JFK warned that if nuclear weapons were obtained by Israel, the destabalization of the Middle East would be the result. Iran is no threat to either Israel or the U.S. Iran signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty. Israel has not. With it’s estimated 300+ nuclear weapons, I hardly see how Iran could survive any attack on Israel! The U.S. must not attack any more sovereign nations on behalf of Israel or shed more innocent blood in order to advance the plans of the globalists who expect the U.S. military to be used as a bludgeon against any country which will not yield to their hegemonic plans for resources and control!!--Freedomman

I can’t believe how forget full people are.
Hace you forgotten the USA overthrew the Irani Government many years ago an installed the Shaq of Iran and tolerated his death squads while we got cheap oil.
Is that all that matters to yhou cheap stuff?
Why would the Irani Government tolerate any interference in their government after so many decades of the dictates and murderous behavior or the U.S. back Dictator.
Read you history. If half the crap that has been shoved down the throats of other country happened here we would have been up in arms just like those people over there.
They have a right to a Soverign Country just like we do. Unless and UNTIL they do something that is unwarrented and outside their borders we have not right to mess with them. How come India, Pakistan and many other in the region are ALLOWED to have nuclear weapons but Iran only wants it for power generation.
You really should have watch the interview woth the President of Iran the man is doing what any good President would do for his country.
Now you can knock Obama for wanting to talk. But as a Disabled Veteran I can tell you this. Before one soldier is injured or killed all communication needs to be tried over and over. Wars win nothing. Look at the USA after a civil war and how many thousands dead and all over the South the Rebel Flag and hate, racism, and church burning. So people can’t openly own slaves but Economic Slavery is actually cheaper. The slaves have to get their own medical care, food and houseing.
