Lottery Dumbs Us ALL Down
Sep 20, 2007I was no fan of the Tennessee Lottery when it was first up for discussion. My biggest issue was that putting the government – ANY government – in charge of a game of chance was ridiculous. The government has enough trouble keeping up with what it constitutionally SUPPOSED to be in charge of. It was not designed to run a business like the lottery.
Here’s some irony – the government was not intended to run the school system either, but it does. And now we have the government-run lottery funding the government-run schools.
Is anyone surprised at the chaos?
Inside Fred’s Head
Sep 06, 2007Fred Thompson. I never watched his tv show. I have seen him in a few movies. As far as his acting goes, though, the role I most remember him for is playing Roseanne’s boss at Wellman Plant on her tv series.
His character was a real ***head. He played it well.
Fred in politics is another matter. You have to figure, though, that if Reagan could rise above his mediocre acting in B-movies, anything is possible.
Fred was a decent senator, and I was just about to let ENTERTAINER FRED die for good and give POLITICIAN FRED my attention and consideration. Then what does he do but pull a stunt like this one -
Fat Chance
Sep 06, 2007If I hear one more person refer to obesity as a disease, I am going to throw down my Little Debbie Swiss Roll and scream!!
Obesity - with a very few medical exceptions - is a lifestyle choice, not a disease. Why is that so hard for so many people to wrap their heads around? And how much of our tax money is the government going to spend trying to find a way to prevent and treat obesity before they accept what we all already know:
There is only ONE way. Eat less fatty food. Exercise more.
I’m sorry, am I going too fast? EAT - LESS - FATTY - FOOD. EXERCISE - MORE.
Let’s take a look at the latest attempts to prolong the denial by the state of Tennessee:
Jody Lee’s Blogerview with State Representative Matthew Hill
Aug 31, 2007Hi, Folks! Rep. Matthew Hill graciously agreed to let me throw a few questions at him that I was curious about and post his answers on my blog. He has also agreed to answer YOUR questions as well – either follow-ups to my own questions or queries about new topics.
My own questions involve state health care, illegal immigration, and new state taxes, among other things
On a personal note, I will not tolerate any rude or inappropriate (in my opinion) questions. Rep. Hill is doing this on his own time and voluntarily as a service to my blog readers and as a favor to me, so regardless of your political affiliation or of whether or not you agree with Rep. Hill’s opinions, I ask you to be respectful. That doesn’t mean you cannot express your disagreement here – just keep it respectful. I will be going through your questions and passing on to Rep. Hill the ones I deem interesting and appropriate. I, and only I, will doing any screening of your questions and comments as I think is necessary.
Just pass along your questions and I will post Hill’s responses as they come in. Hopefully this will be the first of many blogerviews with local and state politicians, allowing both you and myself the opportunity to have our questions addressed by our elected officials firsthand! Enjoy…
ATTN VETERANS: Say What You Will About Giuliani…
Aug 26, 2007…but VETERANS around the country are saying a resounding YES! At least, according to a new Gallup poll, they are.
A whopping 64 percent of veterans polled have a favorable view of Rudy Giuliani. Not much mystery concerning who their LEAST favorite candidate is…
Hillary, of course, gets that honor.
But what makes this poll interesting to me is that the majority of veterans passed on John McCain, decorated war hero who went to hell and back for his country. Given his understanding of the military and of what the soldiers face every day, how could a fellow veteran not support him for Commander in Chief?
