Privacy – A Right, or An Illusion?
Feb 23, 2009 - 01:02 amThe squawk over the loss of privacy when Memphis’s Tennessee
published a list of all handgun carry permit holders in the state got me to thinking.
As conservative politicians vow to attempt legislation that would make such information confidential, I cannot help but wonder about all the other information that SHOULD be personal and private.
But isn’t.
For instance, if you choose to get married, shouldn’t that be your business and no one else’s? If you get divorced, why should anyone else have the right to be privy to that information? The answer is that they shouldn’t. That is personal information that effects no one but you and yours and should not be available to anyone except those with whom you choose to share it.
But it is.
Moonshine Is Out, Meth Is In!
Feb 16, 2009 - 02:02 amThere is a line of thought that says why not legalize meth and have it controlled by distribution through pharmacies. The junkies will kill themselves faster, crime rates will lower since there won’t be any money in it anymore, and it will be cheap, thus removing profit, so there goes THAT incentive for making it.
Sounds reasonable. Until you remember Oxycontin and realize how well legalization and control has worked for THAT substance. Plus a person high on meth tends to be very violent. Sure, they may “kill themselves faster” if it is legal, but they can take a lot of innocent people down with them if meth is easier to get.
So then why not simply outlaw the manufacture of any form of ephedrine that can be made into meth? After all, there are lots of other sinus medications available.
The Only Thing This Stimulus Bill Is Stimulating In Me…
Feb 10, 2009 - 01:02 am...is my gag reflex.
So the $838 billion economic stimulus/spending bill advanced in the Senate on Monday by one vote, over strong - but not unanimous - Republican opposition.
Now what happens?
It’s My Party & I’ll Cry If I Want To
Feb 09, 2009 - 10:02 pm“Tennessee GOP Chairman Robin Smith today declared that House Speaker Kent Williams is no longer a Republican.”
Okay, now this is just silly.
I agree that what Williams did was underhanded (see my blog titled Dirty, Stinky, Sleazy Politics), but c’mon. This move by Smith looks just plain childish.
