A Win/Win for Robertson…
Jan 08, 2008…and he’s not even running for anything!
Former presidential candidate Pat Robertson has once again posted his predictions for the coming year.
Perhaps it is not appropriate to call them “predictions” though. Robertson claims that these are things that God has told him personally will happen.
So that being the case, one would think it is safe to assume that these are things that one can pretty much count on as being right. After all, God, as I know Him, is not wrong.
So what does it mean when Pat Robertson is?
It’s My (Democratic) Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To
Jan 08, 2008When I saw Hillary’s emotional sorta-breakdown on television Monday, just one thing went through my mind.
It was not “Is she sincere?”. No way to know that one. Maybe it was a genuine moment of tearful reflection, maybe a practiced performance designed to show her softer side. Again, there is no way to tell for sure.
For me, though, her sincerity or lack thereof was not the issue, though I admit I am curious as to what YOU think.
No, what went through my mind was the movie A League Of Their Own.
A New Way to NOT Watch Debates
Jan 08, 2008I am not a fan of political debates. A candidate “winning” a debate proves one thing and one thing only – that that candidate is the better debater.
To which one must ask – so what?
It does not mean that a candidate has the best ideas, has the best solutions to problems or the best answers to issues. It means they debate well. They argue better.
Big whoop.
But last weekend, I accidentally stumbled on a way to watch the debates that could prove interesting, if not actually useful.
By NOT watching them at all.
Had Your Fill of Property Tax Hikes?
Jan 03, 2008Homeowners in the Tri-Cities – and all across the country, for that matter – are getting fed up with ever-rising property taxes. But like death, taxes are unavoidable. Right?
Well, not so fast. There is an effort underway in one state to eliminate most, if not all, property taxes.
Bet THAT got your attention. But before you get too excited about the idea, let’s look at how they propose to accomplish this…
It’s All Smoke & Mirrors
Jan 03, 2008If you thought the smoking battle in Tennessee was over when the no smoking laws went into effect and/or when the new cigarette tax went into place (making a carton of cigarettes equal approximately to one month’s mortgage), you were WRONG!
The effects of the afore-mentioned legislation on business owners, as well as the outrageous news that Johnson City may actually contain an area in which the local government CAN’T ban smoking, have both been in the news in recent days.
What fun! I would miss the smoking issue if it were actually settled. It’s such a wonderful way to stir things up! So let’s do just that…
(By the way, this may take a while, but I will try to make it worthwhile.)
