Halloween - Get Over It
Oct 28, 2007Time to let it go, boys and girls. Halloween has outlived whatever fun it once was.
Did you ever think about the fact that Halloween celebrates absolutely nothing? All our other holidays are a celebration of a particular thing, person or event. But Halloween? Nada. Oh, some folks like to go on about how it has demonic roots and originally was a celebration of something satanic. Whatever.
That is not the reason I’m ready to turn lose of this useless holiday. THIS is why:
Are Those Your Medical Records or Are You Just Happy To See Me?
Oct 22, 2007It all sounds so innocent. So convenient. So hassle-free. And “convenient” and “hassle-free” are two of the most attractive adjectives that can be attached to - - well, anything these days.
We are a society that loves to streamline. What exactly we are doing with all that extra time we keep affording ourselves is anybody’s guess, but for the moment, it is beside the point.
The point IS that Microsoft wants to make our lives more convenient and hassle-free with a new program called Healthvault, wherein your, my and our private medical records – that is, EVERYBODY’s private medical records – will be stored.
Easier for you, easier for your physician, easier for hospitals – easy-peezy for one and all.
You don’t have to be an alarmist to be alarmed at this point.
Sunday Picketers ALMOST Get It Right…
Oct 08, 2007About 100 folks in Bristol joined in Sunday’s 20th annual National Life Chain, organized local by a Bristol pastor.
So far, so good.
They gathered alongside a busy street for about an hour, holding signs that advocate adoption, prayer, and abolition of abortion.
Good.
Then, when talking to a reporter for tricities.com, the pastor and leader of the group made a comment that really threw me for a loop…
Stop Waving Those Children In the Air - VETO!
Oct 05, 2007Usually all you have to do is wave a child in the air and cry “But it’s for the children.....” and poof - your legislation is passed by legislators who are afraid that it will make them appear insensitive to children if they vote Nay.
Doesn’t matter what the legislation is. You still look bad if you vote no. At least, that is what the politicians think - that we will judge them for voting against something that is supposedly FOR THE CHILDREN, regardless of what the legislation really says.
This has been the standard for so long, that it was kind of startling to see elected representatives - starting with the President - say NO.
Guess we are not as easy to fool as we used to be.
