If you are under 40 years old and/or have never been divorced, “It’s Complicated” is a very funny movie.
If you are over 40 and have at least one ex-spouse, “It’s Complicated” is an HILARIOUS movie that is blessed with moments of thought-provoking poignancy.

What a treat!

Divorce – any divorce – is couched in what if’s.  In between the witty dialogue and the side-splitting can’t-catch-your-breath moments of laughter, the what-if’s are addressed and explored in a way that real life seldom offers up.  (I haven’t quite decided if that is a good or bad thing.)

Then there is the aging factor.  Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin all portray different stages of the aging process – not in their actual ages which are pretty much the same, but in the way each approaches and copes with (or fails to cope with) the fact their bodies and minds are not always aging at the same pace.

You will no doubt identify with one or more of the three main characters.  I know I did.  I could identify with moments that all 3 of them portrayed at different times.  And it is interesting to watch how they each deal with the “what if’s” that you and I have only imagined.

Bottom line is that it is truly funny.  But it’s the P.S. – those moments of poignancy – that send it over the top and make it a must-see.
