Racing wreck was no ‘accident’

Street racing along Gate City Highway near the Bristol Mall is one of the city’s worst-kept secrets. Police reports printed in this newspaper’s Bristol Blotter reflect numerous instances of this reckless sport across the city. Neighbors have known about this illegal activity near the mall for years.

Local hospitals, patients need Medicaid funds

The cost-shifting has been done and any savings were found long ago. Without additional money to fund Virginia’s Medicaid program, hospitals will be forced to cut quality, services and jobs.

Virginia Intermont College news, lack of detail, troubling

Seven months after coming off probation, Virginia Intermont College wants the public to believe the unbelievable – that its president’s surprise resignation Monday and the Thursday announcement that about 20 percent of the college workforce is being laid off is coincidence.
