Tech tragedy
Apr 17, 2007To the victims and their families, I extend my heartfelt sympathy.
The search for answers inevitably follows any tragedy like summer follows spring. We want to make sense of it all. This is human nature. So, in the days, weeks, even years to come, the Tech shootings will be deconstructed, reconstructed, analyzed and disected. Perhaps lessons will be learned that will make us safer.
Some of the questions are already emerging. Why the 2-hour wait before students were notified of the first shooting? Did this delay cost lives? Some students and parents believe it did.
If I were the parent of a Tech student, I would be disturbed by the delay. And the official explanations, so far, seem hollow.
